Cordia Dodecandra
Scientific Name: Cordia dodecandra. Common names: 'siricote', 'zericote' 'orange cordia'. This is a medium-sized tree with a mature height of up to 30 feet. Native to Florida, West Indies, and Central America. It is salt and drought tolerant and makes a colorful specimen or accent tree with its intensely orange flowers. The tree is evergeen and can be used as a street tree and in commercial and residential landscapes. The dark, strong heartwood, which may have black markings or ripples, is a valuable carving wood for our local woodcarving industry here in Belize. Easy to grow from seeds.
